The World Bank Scholarships Programme is currently open for students looking to study master’s degrees in 2023. It offers scholarships for 45 participating master’s programmes at 27 universities across the US, Europe, Africa, Oceania and Japan.
Participating universities include the The University of Tokyo, among others.
The programme is specifically aimed at international students who wish to study development-related topics and who originate from developing countries. Eligible countries include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Dominica, Ethiopia, Fiji, Ghana, Iraq, Kenya, Lebanon, Madagascar, Nepal, the Philippines, Sudan, Tonga, Ukraine, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia and many more.
Students who receive this scholarship will receive benefits such as economy class air travel at the beginning and end of your scholarship period, $500 in travel allowances for each trip, full tuition fees, the cost of basic medical insurance through your university and a monthly living allowance to cover your accommodation, living expenses and equipment.

Applicants must be studying a development-related topic such as conflict, education policy, health systems, urban design, public health, climate change, environmental resources or sustainability among many other topics.
Applicants are chosen based on their professional experience, recommendation letters, their commitment to developing their home countries and educational backgrounds. Applicants can read the full application requirements and check their eligibility on the World Bank website.
