All aspiring international students will have to keep in mind how they will fund their studies, as we all know that studying internationally is quite the investment.
There are many scholarships or partial scholarships available to international students, but trying to find the right one for you can be difficult when faced with so much choice.
Below is a list of just some of the scholarships available around the world for Indonesian students to study abroad. Most universities will have some form of bursary or scholarship aimed at helping international students, so be sure to check what your university is offering as we may have missed it out.
Global
LPDP Scholarship – the LPDP (Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan) scholarship programme from the Indonesian Ministry of Finance offers funding at a range of universities across the globe. Participating universities include the University of Manchester, Trinity College Dublin, RMIT University and many more.
Australia
Australia Awards – these scholarships cover tuition, travel and living expenses for a range of academic programmes across a number of Australian universities. They focus particularly on providing opportunities for students from developing countries in the Indo-Pacific region who wish to contribute to the development of their home country after their studies.
Australian National University scholarships for South Asia – the Australian National University offers a number of scholarships for students from South Asia, including the College of Business & Economics South East Asia Merit Scholarship and the ANU Chancellor’s International Scholarship.
RMIT STEM Scholarships for Southeast Asia – this RMIT University scheme offers a one-off payment of A$10,000 to five students a year from South-east Asia studying STEM subjects.

US
Fulbright Indonesia – the Fulbright Commission offers a range of opportunities for Indonesian students to study or work in the US at all degree levels.
Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for Mid-Career Professionals – this funds tuition, living costs and travel for mid-career professionals from Indonesia to study a 10-month career-enhancing programme at participating US universities. Applicants must have an undergraduate degree and five or more years’ experience in the public sector.
UK
Chevening Scholarships – Chevening is the UK government’s international awards scheme. It offers a range of scholarships for Indonesian students.
GREAT Scholarships – these scholarships from the British Council are each worth a minimum of £10,000 towards tuition fees for international students pursuing a one-year postgraduate degree at a partnering UK institution. Partnering universities include Imperial College London, Newcastle University, the University of Bristol, the University of Edinburgh and many more.
Cardiff Metropolitan University South East Asia Scholarship Award – offers a 50 per cent fee reduction in the first year to students from South-east Asia.
SOAS South-East Asia Postgraduate Scholarship – offers £3,000 off tuition fees to postgraduate students from South-East Asia studying at SOAS University of London.
Canada
Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) – supports students from countries within the Association of South-east Asian Nations (Asean) with grants of up to C$15,900 to attend short-term exchanges to study or research in a range of partnering Canadian post-secondary institutions.
IDRC Doctoral Research Awards – these are for students who are already studying at a university in Canada. The award covers the costs of field research conducted for a doctoral dissertation in one or more countries in the Global South. Indonesian citizens are eligible.
Ontario Trillium Scholarship – offers 75 international PhD candidates up to $40,000 annually to support their studies in participating universities in the Ontario province, renewable for up to four years. Applicants are expected to have a strong academic record.
Germany
DAAD Helmut-Schmidt Master’s Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance – this scholarship supports talented international graduate students to study at several partner institutions in Germany. The scholarship covers tuition fees and a stipend to students in disciplines that are of special relevance for the social, political and economic development of their home country.
Holland
DIKTI-LPDP-STUNED Joint Scholarship Programme – supports Indonesian students to study water management, sustainable fishing or maritime sciences at participating Dutch universities.
