It’s been another turbulent year for international students, as the world continued to grapple with coronavirus. While we’ve become used to sudden changes in travel rules and vaccination requirements, students are still looking for information that will help their study abroad journey run more smoothly.
Covering changes to visa applications to student blogs, scholarship guides and university rankings, we’ve published a range of articles this year that can be read no matter where you are in your academic journey.

One of our most-read articles this year was a guide on what to do if your visa application is rejected. Although this is fairly rare, it’s always good to be prepared in case it does happen, and have a plan of action in place.
In relation to this, many of our readers were also interested in this guide to post-study work visas in the UK, US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Germany. One of the main reasons people choose to study abroad is to improve their career prospects so knowing what visas are available for students after graduation is valuable information.
We also found that many of the guides to scholarships that we published this year were particularly popular. Finding funding and scholarships as a foreign student can be a bit of a minefield so our guides for students from India, China, Africa, Malaysia, Hong Kong and many other countries helped to break down some of the more popular scholarships and where to look for them.

One of this year’s biggest changes for international students in the UK was the reintroduction of the post-study work visa. While the news was announced in 2020, applications opened on 1 July 2021. The visa allows international students who have completed a degree at undergraduate level or above to stay in the UK to work for a further two years on graduation.
Readers were also very interested in this year’s Brighton and Sussex Medical School ranked number one for student experience in this survey of more than 330,000 students. Survey questions covered all areas of academic life, including the quality of teaching, feedback on work and learning resources – and more than 75 per cent of respondents agreed that they were satisfied with the quality of their course.

Students wishing to study in Australia in 2021 had a pretty hard time given that the country remained closed to almost all travellers for the majority of the year. In December some states finally allowed international students to arrive as long as they were fully vaccinated and had tested negative for Covid-19 in the three days prior to arriving.
Students were also attempting to keep up with all of the changes to the visa application process so this table on everything students need to know about student visas on Australia was a helpful tool.

Australian universities also performed well in out 2021 Impact Rankings, which explores how universities are performing against measures in sustainability, climate change and gender equality.
